“What if we inspired one child a year to think bigger, learn more, and give back?
As a young girl, I remember thinking that if my mind had the power to generate an idea, then my mind also had the power to help me make that idea a reality. Looking back on it now, it seems to be a very innocent thought, but it is one I still believe today.
I also believe that if we can inspire at least one child in elementary education to have ideas and make them realities, we increase their odds of higher education. inspiration comes when simple needs are met. When a child has a pencil and paper, they can put entire worlds into drawings, a diary, or stories. So often, though, on the first day of school, they have to ask to borrow these basic supplies. This can greatly inhibit the creativity and inspiration we wish to promote.
I know from experience that you can never fully explain to a child why Christmas will not come to visit them and their family. For children in transitional housing, it is not so much about the toys or the gifts, it is about reclaiming a sense of normalcy. It is about feeling like they belong with their friends and those they go to school with. If I can keep them from feeling this mixture of confusion and sadness, then my goal is complete.
The Circle of Love was a desire of the same little girl who believed that all ideas were possible realities. Today, I believe in the idea of shared HOPE. What do you believe? ”
